Hunter Biden’s Testimony Tangles House Inquiry, Comer and Raskin Clash

Apparently, someone convinced Hunter Biden he could bully Rep. James Comer, who heads up the House Oversight Committee investigating Biden family corruption. Let’s just say that’s not going very well.

Abbe Lowell, Hunter Biden’s lawyer, announced on Tuesday morning that his client would kindly comply with Comer’s congressional subpoena. The president’s child only wanted to attend a public hearing.

Abbe Lowell, Hunter Biden’s lawyer, informed the House Oversight Committee on Tuesday morning that his client would only comply with the subpoena given earlier this month by James Comer. Hunter is required to appear for a deposition behind closed doors.

The committee that is investigating will always be at risk of political backlash if they give a public testimony. Hillary Clinton’s testimony on the Benghazi tragedy was probably the best. Clinton could be combative, partisan, and dismissive with the cameras rolling. The Democrats in her corner were ready to promote narratives that would be inevitably trimmed for nightly newscasts.

In the news, the two-time failed presidential candidate was hailed for putting the controversy to rest. She lost the 2016 presidential election to Donald Trump but not because of the testimony she gave to Congress.

Why give Hunter Biden, his Democrat colleagues, and the media an instant public platform for them to obfuscate or set a narrative? The same tangible evidence can be uncovered through closed-door testimony without having to make a grandstanding display or give the media the headlines they want. Once the foundation is laid, a public hearing can be held later.

Come laid down the law in response to Hunter Biden’s ultimatum.

Hunter Biden is not following the rules that everyone else must follow. House Republicans will not tolerate this. Hunter Biden is required to appear at a deposition by our lawfully issued subpoena on Wednesday, December 13,” Comer said in a Tuesday statement. “We expect Hunter Biden to comply with our subpoena, but we also agree that he should be able to testify publicly at a later date.”

Hunter Biden cannot choose the way he responds to a subpoena. He is legally required to give a closed-door testimony on the 13th of December because it is part of his subpoena. It is not possible to say “But I am the son of the president” and insist that he only attend a public hearing. Hunter Biden’s lawyer’s arrogance is not only noted but also irrelevant.

Rep. Jamie Raskin complained and Comer (via the House Oversight Committee X) slapped him.

Republicans are not required to be hypocrites. Raskin had previously asked Steve Bannon to appear in a closed-door hearing before appearing publicly. What’s good enough for the goose, is good enough for the gander. Hunter Biden should be forced to testify under oath, in an environment that is difficult for him and his lawyers to manipulate. Once all the evidence is gathered, put him in front of a public audience and tear him to pieces.
