We live in a strange time. In the last decade, we have seen things that most of us could not have imagined. We can watch the social devolution from a front-row seat. I will spare you a litany of the things that have gone wrong in the last few years, as America and the rest of the world are approaching terminal velocity.
Except for 9/11, Pearl Harbor, and Japanese incursions in Alaska during World War II, or balloon bombs used by the Allies, most combat on American soil has never been seen. We have a whole generation who knows little or nothing about 9/11.
For so long, it seemed impossible and impractical that a foreign power or agent would wage war on the United States or anywhere near them. Some people would like to think that 9/11 was an accident. It is unlikely that anything like this will ever happen again. Hamas is an organization of liberation, and anyone who crosses the border to improve their lives is here illegally. Only a racist and xenophobic conservatism would believe otherwise.
U.S. Customs and Border Protection, however, has instructed its agents to be on the lookout for IEDs. We tend to be arrogant and think that IEDs only exist in war zones. On Wednesday, Mexican authorities found ten of these devices in Mexico. Fox News reported the IEDs had been found following a firefight between two rival cartels near Tucson. Both sides wanted to control the area where there is a gap on the border fence. This gap was used to transport drugs in the past. It is now used to traffic in human beings. One suspect was discovered with an AK-47 and two magazines. He also had a handgun, loose rounds, a handgun, and an AK-47.
Although Americans weren’t the target of the firefight, does anyone believe that cartels are concerned about non-combatants caught in the crossfire? How long will border skirmishes continue? The cartels have already shown their disregard for human lives. Drug and human trafficking are enough evidence. According to the Fox report, even though Republicans are pushing for stronger border security, Biden’s administration is refusing to move. They claim that these measures will “cut off almost all access to human protections, in a way that is inconsistent with our nation’s values and obligations.”
As if Biden or his party are concerned about human rights. They would know that IEDs from the Mexican side quickly translate to IEDs here, not to mention those immigrants who do not come to this country for a better future, but to commit acts of terror or further the interests of criminal syndicates. At least, they’ll all vote in the right direction, or enough will. Such is the hope of this “humanitarian-minded” administration.
Unfortunately, the power brokers in the United States and their acolytes within the media have turned America into a soft target. At least two generations of students in college are also to blame. They have talked about pronouns and minutiae. They have also tried to cancel everything that makes them uncomfortable and focused on patriarchy. We are not prepared for IEDs and the border, nor will we be for their presence within the country.
It is difficult for many Americans to even notice the inflation, crime, and other cultural, political, and social problems of this era of the 21st Century. The nation is going bankrupt, but too many Americans are fat, sassy, and dull. Too many leaders are willing and able to exploit the complacency of Americans.
