Border Tensions Flare: Mexico Prepares Legal Fight Against Texas Immigration Crackdown

Mexican El Presidente is threatening legal action against Texas for new immigration laws.

On Tuesday, Mexican President Andres Manual Lopez Obrador said that his government is preparing to contest a new Texas Law allowing law enforcement agencies to arrest suspected migrants. He called the law “inhumane.”

Texas Governor Greg Abbott has signed a law that gives local officials powers previously delegated by the U.S. Government.

Federal laws already allow for the prosecution of illegal entry and re-entry by migrants who enter the United States. However, the governor of the state bordering the United States has criticized what he believes is the failure to enforce these laws by U.S. President Joe Biden.

In December, my friend informed me that Abbott had authorized Texas law enforcement officers to arrest illegal immigrants. Now, the Mexican leader has retaliated by claiming he would seek legal sanctions against Texas.

All of this would not be a problem if the Biden Administration enforced immigration laws. Governor Abbott has previously remonstrated President Biden over his issue and now takes matters into his own hands. This is perhaps understandable, given the lack of federal action.

Mexico’s President is not happy about this.

Lopez Obrador stated that the foreign ministry has already begun to work on the legal process for challenging this law.

The president said that Abbott was trying to gain popularity by implementing these measures. However, he would not win any favor because there are too many Mexicans in Texas.

You’re in for a treat!

It’s a matter of incentives. Mexico wants to keep people coming north. Their citizens, both legally and illegally in the United States send around $60 billion per year to their relatives in Mexico. This is a significant income, boosts the economy of Mexico, and keeps the ruling classes in place. Mexico is not the only country from which these illegal immigrants originate. Mexico does not want these people to stay in Mexico where they could be a burden on Mexican taxpayers.

The cost of illegal immigration in the United States is estimated at $450 billion. The “sanctuary cities” have been experiencing increasing tensions from residents due to the influx of illegal immigrants. Washington’s response has not only been ineffective but at times downright absurd. Human trafficking is a major source of income for Mexican drug cartels.

It is because of this that the states have taken action. By the way, it’s important to point out that not only Republican governors have had enough.

The United States is a crucial safety valve for Mexico and Central American countries. If El Presidente Obrador wants to complain that we won’t allow unchecked immigration into the United States, he could find himself in an increasingly hostile U.S. populace, Hispanics included. And if we enforced the same system Mexico uses, then he might find his safety valve, and those billions of dollars cut off.

What will Mexico then do? Most likely, Mexico will collapse in ruin. This is also bad news for us. Order may be possible from chaos but it’s not a good idea. A failed narco-state run by cartels along our southern border will not be good.

Unfortunately, this is the direction we seem to be heading in.
