There’s both good and bad news to discuss. We can start with Houston’s good news:
Sheila Jackson Lee (D-TX) was running to become mayor of Houston. Hillary Clinton, Rep. Nancy Pelosi(D-CA), and Rep. Hakeem Jeffreys (DNY) endorsed her.
Even with these heavyweights on her side, she lost. Badly.
Whitmire won the run-off elections in Houston on Saturday by almost 30 points.
Whitmire’s focus was on reducing crime. He had an immediate advantage over the progressive Jackson Lee.
She also landed herself in a few controversies. One of them was a video with profanity that showed her cursing and berating staff.
Warning: Graphic language
This is not the kind of person you would want in charge of an important city.
On top of all that, she also released a video encouraging voters to vote on Dec. 7, which was the wrong date. This could confuse voters and show her leadership potential if she cannot even get a simple thing right in an ad, which is likely to be heavily vetted.
One has to worry about the staffers. I don’t think they will have a great night.
How wonderful that Houstonians won’t have to deal with her.
The bad news. She has until Monday to apply to run for her House seat again. Now that she has lost, I would anticipate her to file.
There is still one question: Are they certain she won? Did they count the votes on December 7th?!
