Last week, Arizona governor Katie Hobbs (D AZ) expressed her disappointment over the Biden Administration’s “failure” to secure our border. She requested that the President “reassign National Guard soldiers” to help in the reopening of Lukeville Port of Entry.
…. The Arizona Democrat Governor Katie Hobbs sent a letter to federal officials demanding that they reimburse Arizona over half a million dollars in costs for illegal immigration, drug interdiction, and law enforcement, “due to federal government failure to secure our borders.”
The governor informed the federal government of Arizonans’ debt for “the $512,529,333 that federal border inaction cost us.” My colleague pointed out that Hobbs claimed in her letter the Lukeville crossing was vital to Arizona’s well-being.
She said: “Our ports are vital to the economy of our state and country, and they must be adequately staffed and equipped to continue to drive economic growth.”
The Governor has not yet responded to the question. Hobbs did not get the answer she wanted. According to Cameron Arcand, The Center Square, on Friday she issued an order placing National Guard soldiers along the U.S. Mexico border, including in Lukeville, Arizona.
Hobbs issued an Executive Order Friday to send troops to assist the authorities at Lukeville, and San Miguel. Lukeville Port of Entry was closed on December 4, as U.S. Customs and Border Protection claimed they didn’t have the resources to maintain it while also dealing with the migrant influx in the area.
Hobbs, in a Friday statement, said that the federal government “yet again” refused to do its duty to secure our borders and keep our communities protected.
With this Executive Order, I am taking action in a way that the federal government will not. Arizona, however, needs manpower and resources to reopen Lukeville, manage the flow, and maintain a safe, orderly, and humane border. The Biden administration, despite repeated requests for help, has refused to provide desperately needed resources along Arizona’s border”, the Democrat continued.
