Reconciliation Statue Stays Put, Sparking Fresh Division

Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson blamed “right-wing extremes” for the impending migrant crisis in the Windy City. He said they “refuse the accept the Civil War’s results.”

We all laughed or gawked at the “flagrant” nature of this statement. This statement was a bit jarring. No one on the right today argues that the Confederates’ cause was justified or that slavery should return. Some people might say that the common soldiers are worthy of commemoration as a symbol of how the country has recovered from its bloodiest war, and they are still Americans.

For some strange reason, Democrats still act like it’s the year 1865. Except now, they pretend to be on the side of the Union. Since George Floyd overdosed on fentanyl in 2010, the left has been determined to erase all traces of the Confederate States of America and, by extension, any American history that predates yesterday.

The Confederacy is no longer mentioned in American history, and instead, the focus is on the faults of key figures, and every event or development will be framed as a result of malice.

This brings us to a more recent story about the Reconciliation Monument, in Arlington. It is scheduled to be removed. The name of the monument suggests that it was constructed to show the Northern and Southern States making peace. It also includes Isaiah 2:4, wherein Isaiah says, “And they will beat their swords into plowshares and their spears in pruning hooks.”

The message is lost, however, in the way it’s conveyed. As those who are in favor of the removal of the monument have argued.

Ironically, Democrats who historically supported the Confederacy now say we must utterly destroy its memory, as if it were still being fought today, 158 years after the war.

Then you have a black Mayor who is a member of the same Democratic Party saying that it’s the Republicans (or the right) doing all the fighting.

It gets better.

The removal of the Reconciliation Monument was temporarily prohibited by a federal judge.

The judge, Rossie Alston, Jr. is black.

Take a moment to ponder that.

A black man as a federal court judge was unimaginable 100 years ago. What more proof is needed that the United States has moved past the War Between the States to a new era?

A black federal judge is needed to temporarily bar the removal of a memorial celebrating the reconciliation with those who want to maintain the enslavement of his ancestors. The removal of this monument was ordered by the very same political party that used to support the same retaining slavery. This comes just weeks after the mayor of Chicago said that a member of the same party who is black, has been saying that members of the opposition political party who historically supported emancipation are still fighting in the war that ended slavery.

The irony is reaching levels that should not be possible.
