Twelve Killed in Holiday Party Incident in Mexico

Reuters reports that a group of gunmen opened fire at a party in Guanajuato in central Mexico on Sunday, killing 12 people.

The attack was reported by Mexican authorities to have taken place in Salvatierra at dawn.

Officials say that the attack occurred when an armed group fired on guests at a posada party, a Mexican tradition held during the weeks leading up to Christmas.

The office of the state attorney general announced that 12 people were killed in the deadly attack on X (formerly known as Twitter). However, more information about the attack, including the identities of the victims, has not yet been released.

Statistics show that Guanajuato has been one of the nation’s most violent states, largely due to tensions between drug trafficking organizations.
