I don’t remember the last New Year’s Eve I watched the ball drop in Times Square. It’s still popular for people to watch or attend. The White House naturally thought that it was a great idea for Joe Biden, who is on vacation, to appear with Ryan Seacrest on ABC’s live broadcast.
They’re probably regretting their decision now.
It was not a tough interview. The softball questions could not have been any softer and that is perfectly fine. Seacrest did a good job. This is not an event that requires political overtones.
Seacrest’s first question was: “What kind of holiday food have you enjoyed over the past few days?”
Biden jokingly said, “Well I’ve eaten and everything has been put in front of me.” “I have been eating a lot of chicken, chicken Parmesan, and pasta, which I love. I’ve eaten all Italian food.”
Even this response seemed awkward and overthought. Maybe Dr. Jill was aware of what Seacrest wanted and responded: “And Ice Cream.”
Joe continued, “And ice cream.” “Chocolate chip ice cream.”
The funny thing is, earlier this year Jill reportedly tried to convince Joe to “ditch” the ice cream.
As Seacrest continued to ask Joe Biden, “As we look back on 2023 and reflect, what kind of memories or highlights stand out for us?”
Easy stuff, right? It wouldn’t be surprising if Biden and his team had all the questions prepared in advance, and he approved them.
What happened next was hard to watch. Biden responded with the energy of a leaky faucet. It was a rehearsed response to a completely different question.
“Well, for me one of the biggest highlights is–my father used to use an expression. He told me, “Joey a job is about more than just a paycheck. It’s also about your dignity.” It’s all about respect. “So many people in the Midwest and the middle of the country have had their factories shipped overseas in the last two years.”
You know what I’m thinking. What’s the matter? Who else thought that? Jill Biden. Joe’s top handler who is often pushed to his side at public events to corral Joe when he begins to glitch couldn’t resist glaring at him before turning to the camera and looking with what appeared to be gritted teeth.
Biden went on to say, “And they lost hope and faith.” We brought many jobs back to America. The people are now able to earn a living and have created over 14,000,000 jobs. And I feel great that the American people have risen. They’ve had a tough time with the pandemic, and now we are coming back. They’re back.”
Seacrest did not ask Biden for a political response to highlight his long-discredited record. That’s not the point of a New Year’s Eve party. Seacrest wanted some fun and easy answers. Biden blew it.
