Why do some Republicans find it difficult to speak out on the transgender issue?
Nikki Haley was caught in this trap when asked if a man could become a female on Monday. The former UN ambassador avoided the question by giving a lengthy response that included several deflecting issues.
The questioner’s setup was to refer to Donald Trump also failing the same inquiry.
JOHN: I am concerned by a lot of what Trump says and does. You know, I’ve seen him say that he couldn’t answer the question: Can a man be a woman? What is your answer to this question?
Haley started by referring to Trump as the former President, which had no relevance to the investigation.
You know, I said that I wanted to start by talking about Trump, and then move on to the question. This is the hard truth from my side. I think Trump was the perfect president at the ideal time. I agree with many of his policies. But chaos, whether it’s right or wrong, follows him. Everyone on this call is aware of that. We can’t have a country in chaos and a burning world and endure four more years of turmoil. We will not survive.
No matter how right or wrong I am on this point, it doesn’t seem to have anything to do with the question of whether a male can become female. Haley’s campaign has focused on the “chaos,” she says, that Trump brings to politics, but this is unrelated to transgender concerns.
Haley then began to talk about minor surgeries.
Can a man turn into a woman? Many people have talked about all these roles and issues. I am adamant that we shouldn’t allow anyone under the age of 18 to undergo gender-change surgery. Period. Kids can no longer get tattoos until they are 18. We shouldn’t make them permanently alter their bodies until they are 18. This includes hormones, puberty blockers, and any other hormonal products that could cause this.
We want people to be able to live the way they choose after 18 years of age. I do not think the government should be controlling anyone’s life. You should be able to live your life the way that you choose. The government should not interfere with you.
Haley and I both agree that minors shouldn’t be allowed to have surgery under the pretext of “gender-affirming care”. I agree with Haley that hormone therapy and puberty-blocking drugs should not be permitted. That doesn’t answer the question.
Can a male become female? That question doesn’t involve government regulations. This is a question of biology and ideologies. Politicians either believe that a man is capable of becoming a woman, or they aren’t. There are no qualifiers needed. Haley refused to answer the simple “yes”/”no” questions.
Megyn responded to Haley. Haley wasn’t happy with it.

Voters need to know that, when it comes to transgender ideologies, speaking the truth will not be any easier in three years than it is now. In 2024, if a politician is still avoiding the topic of transgenderism, likely, they will eventually cave in as pressure increases.
The vagueness of today will be the affirmation of tomorrow. Some Republican voters may not care. To me, however, the ability to tell the truth even when it is not pleasant is an important indicator of character.
