Darius Rucker, a country star from Tennessee, was arrested for a minor offense of drug possession.
According to the public information officer of the Williamson County Sheriff’s Office, the 57-year-old singer was arrested Thursday in Williamson County.
Rucker was arrested on two counts of simple possession/casual trade of a controlled substance and a single count of violating the vehicle registration laws of the state.
He was arrested in the Williamson County Jail at around 1 pm and released an hour later on a bond of $10,500.
Mark Puryear, Rucker’s lawyer, released a statement following his client’s detention.
Puryear stated that “Darius Rucker fully cooperates with the authorities to misdemeanor allegations.”
Rucker was awarded a star in December on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. In 2023, the Grammy-winning country singer released his eighth album “Carolyn’s Boy”. This album is a tribute to his late mother.
Rucker, after more than 30 years of leading Hootie & the Blowfish, has built a successful career in the country music business. However, he said that he didn’t think he had reached the peak of his career.
He said, “I always feel that I haven’t achieved enough.”
Rucker revealed last year to People magazine that his two youngest kids are interested in pursuing a career in medicine or law, despite his jokes about wanting them to become doctors or lawyers.
The singer has two children with his ex-wife, Daniela, Jack and Carolyn. Rucker also has a daughter from a prior relationship, Carolyn.
He said they still view him as a normal dad, despite his fame and success.
“They don’t care what I do as a living.” I am nothing special. “I’m their father,” he said to the outlet. “They love my songs, they think they’re cool, but when I walk out of the bus at a concert, they ask, ‘Dad are you wearing that?’ I love that they let me know I’m a nerd.
Rucker revealed in the interview that he and his wife Beth Leonard, who had been married for 20 years, have separated.
Rucker said to People that their split was “hurtful and made him feel like a failure”. “But we are still a family.” “A piece of paper will not change that.”
Rucker said that they are “not divorced officially yet.”
He said, “We are still a family because Beth is awesome.” “She’s a wonderful human being and knows what’s best for her children.”
