J.K. Rowling, the author of “Harry Potter”, has received a lot of hate and criticism from the woke left over the past few years for speaking out in support of a British woman fired from her position because she stated some inconvenient facts about the biology between men and women.
Rowling’s position has been threatened with cancellation and she also received death threats. Left-wing activists even posted photos of Rowling’s home, including the address, on social media to intimidate her.
Rowling, however, has remained steadfast in her position despite the criticism. In a tweet from October 2023, she even said that if it were made illegal in the United Kingdom for someone to use incorrect pronouns to refer to them then she would go to jail to defend her views.
Rowling, like most people with similar views, has been accused by a student and a teacher of being “transphobic” during a recent video exchange.
According to his bio, the channel is run and owned by Warren Smith. He has taught filmmaking classes and conducted workshops.
At the beginning of the video, you can hear a student ask Smith his opinion on Rowling in light of her “controversial history.” The student specifically asked Smith if “he still liked her work, despite her racist opinions.”
Smith then questioned the premise behind the student’s query. For the next four minutes or so, Smith engaged in similar exchanges, never telling the students what to think, but rather getting them to reconsider the basis for every statement or question they made about Rowling or what her critics have said about her.
The student admits to Smith at the end of this clip that he feels like an “idiot” for framing the question in the manner he did, now that he has realized that Rowling’s opinions are very similar to his.
Watch:
This is utterly brilliant. A student accuses @jk_rowling of being transphobic. This teacher skilfully dissects the claim and challenges it by asking questions.
He teaches not what to think, but how to think critically.
Watch until the end.

In many ways, their back and forth reminded me of the famous “interview” that took place in October 2023 between a leftist journalist and Canadian Conservative Party Leader Pierre Poilievre. Poilievre challenged every question asked by the reporter, which was liberally biased.
What Smith did should be followed by all teachers and professors in America whenever a student or speaker, a media person, or anyone else asks a question with a biased viewpoint.
It’s fine to have an opinion and share it openly. However, you must be able to back up your opinions with facts. When they don’t, they come off as people who make snap decisions and believe everything they hear, just like this student.
These same educators should not only question the basis of these loaded questions but also refrain from “leading” the person to whom they are speaking in any direction other than trying to get them to think on their own, as Smith did.
Imagine what a much better country this would be with more Warren Smiths teaching in the public schools and colleges (especially journalism) and fewer Laurence Tribes or Jay Rosens. It is mind-boggling to think of all the good we could achieve socially, politically, and culturally under this scenario.
