Controversial Funding Bill Prohibits ‘Pride’ Flag from Flying at U.S. Embassies

Published on

The $1.2 trillion funding measure that was recently passed contained an amendment that went unnoticed. It effectively banned flying “pride flags” from U.S. embassies across the world.

According to the law, no U.S. funds can be used “to fly or display a banner over a facility of United States Department of State”, other than the U.S. Flag, flags related to government, such as the MIA or Prisoner of War flag, or flags supporting hostages or illegally detained Americans.

It is said that this is “anti-LGBTQI+” because in the past, the “pride flag” was flown above some embassies. I protest against embassies flying the “Smokey the Bear’ flag or the Magic Kingdom flag that is flown at Disney. These flags are just as appropriate to fly over an enclave of the United States abroad as is the “pride flag”.

If you are going to fly the “pride” banner to celebrate the LGBT equality movement, why not also celebrate the movements for women’s rights, black equality, and Hispanic equality? Or Puerto Rican statehood or any of the other dozen “movements” that would represent the many Americans who long for equal rights.

Today’s lexicon says that the “pride flag” should not be flown, because it is “exclusionary.”

The White House announced Saturday that it would work to find a solution to the ban on flying the rainbow flag which celebrates the LGBTQ equality movement.

Biden believed it was inappropriate to abuse a process that was necessary to keep the government’s doors open by including a policy that targeted LGBTQI+ Americans, stating in a White House press release. The president was “committed to fighting for LGBTQI+ equal rights at home and abroad.”

That’s nonsense. Presidents and Congress will include all kinds of riders and amendments that “abuse” the funding process. It doesn’t seem to matter that the current funding system is an abuse of the Constitution and the American public, as long as you show a powerful lobby that you are on their side.

The ban only applies to the flagpole of the embassy. The flag can be flown anywhere on the embassy grounds.

The Biden camp has said that while flags cannot be flown over U.S. embassies they can still be displayed on the grounds of the embassy or in offices.

The White House stated that the ban would not affect the ability of LGBTQI+ members to serve in our embassies openly or to celebrate Pride, the month in which LGBTQ parades, events, and other activities are held.

The left does not draw lines. The left only draws the line when they say it should be drawn.

Even though the White House, the LGBT community and others make it seem like they are, the flag is still allowed at U.S. Embassies. Some people are not happy until they feel like they’re being persecuted.

I understand exactly what they are feeling. Today, I will fly my Smokey The Bear flag in protest against the government’s ban on the LGBTQI+ flag being flown at embassies.
