Nikki Haley’s Abrupt and Mysterious Campaign Halt Leaves Supporters Puzzled

Former U.N. Ambassador and South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley has suspended her campaign after massive losses on Super Tuesday after she only won Vermont.

Haley responded to the predictions of pundits on how she would end her campaign in an extremely short and stilted speech. Haley, dressed in red, stepped up to the podium with no music or fanfare.

My campaign began with the statement that it was based on my love of our country. My mother, who is a first-generation immigrant, was able to vote for her daughter as president. Only in America.

The support that we have received from across the country is truly amazing, but it’s time for me to end my campaign.

I told you I wanted Americans’ voices to be heard. I did it. I don’t regret anything. Although I won’t be running for office anymore, I will continue to speak out about the issues I care about.

Haley chose to explain what she thinks needs to be done to move our country forward.

Our national debt will ultimately crush our economy. Our freedom and survival depend on a smaller federal government. Socialism will ruin America. Our Congress is dysfunctional, and it’s only getting worse. There are more followers than leaders. Now more than ever, Washington politicians need to be limited in their terms. The retreat of America has set the world ablaze. It is not just a moral obligation to stand by our allies, such as those in Ukraine, Israel, and Taiwan, but also much more. We will not be able to stop the war if we continue to retreat. While we are united in our support of freedom, it is also important that we remain Americans. We must move away from hatred and division.

As every American has the right to do, I will continue promoting all of these values. In our great nation, I wanted to be your president. But being a citizen is a privilege in and of itself. I look forward to that privilege.

Haley’s words, while generating much speculation about whether she will try to ingratiate herself once again into a future Trump administration, or attach herself to a new campaign gave the impression that Haley only intends to return to her private life. Haley did not endorse former President Donald Trump but she was gracious in her words.

Donald Trump is likely to be the Republican candidate at our party’s convention in July. I congratulate Donald Trump and wish him the best. I wish well to anyone who is America’s next president. We are too important to our country to let our differences separate us.

Haley then reaffirmed her conservative credentials while asserting that she was her own person and that whether or not she officially endorsed Trump, it would be on her terms.

I’ve always been a conservative Republican. Margaret Thatcher gave some great advice on this issue, just as she had on many others. She said: “Never follow the crowd.” Make your own decisions. Donald Trump must now earn the votes of those in our party, as well as those who didn’t support him. I hope that he succeeds. Politics is best when it involves bringing people to your cause and not driving them away. Our conservative cause desperately needs more people. Now is the time to choose.

Haley concluded with some more kind words for her supporters, especially the women.

The words that I used to begin my campaign, taken from Joshua’s book, are the same ones I used to end it. “Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid. Do not be discouraged, for God will be with you wherever you go.”

During this campaign, I have seen the greatness of this country. Thank you, America from the bottom of my soul. God bless you.
