The authorities have reported that five people were injured and four killed in Rockford, Illinois in an attack described by the mayor as a “random, senseless act” of violence. First responders discovered stabbing victims at several locations in the aftermath of the attack. A 22-year-old suspect has since been arrested. There is currently no motive.
Carla Redd, Rockford Police Chief, told reporters that “right now we do not have a clear motivation as to why this individual committed such heinous crime.”
Rockford, a city located 60 miles north of Chicago with a population of around 150,000, is the largest in Illinois.

Redd expresses her shock.
Officials said that some of the victims were stabbed. This included a woman who had fled from a home invasion and a male who was trying to help her.
Authorities said that a suspect was taken into custody and that police were not searching for any other persons involved in violence in “multiple locations” in Rockford, Illinois, and in an area in the county just after 1 pm.
Carla Redd, Rockford Police chief, told reporters that “words cannot express my feelings right now.” She called the suspect’s crimes “heinous.”

One of the survivors has been listed as being in critical condition. Some of the victims died from knife wounds, but it is not clear whether all injuries were caused by stabbing. However, a gun was not involved. One of the victims was identified as an employee of the U.S. Postal Service. Postal Service.
The tragedy began early in the afternoon.
Redd said a report was received by Rockford’s dispatch center at 1:04 p.m. regarding a medical emergency. Other calls were then made asking for police assistance.
Sheriff Gary Caruana reported that a home invasion occurred in a Rockford neighborhood, part of Winnebago County. A woman fled but was stabbed in the face and hands.
He said she was intubated and taken to hospital with serious wounds. Caruana stated that the man who tried to intervene and help her received stab injuries, but he was “fine” and is being evaluated.
Caruana reported that a deputy sheriff took the suspect into custody.
