Federal prosecutors claim that a Texas man used a photocopy of a boarding pass to sneak onto a Delta Airlines flight from Salt Lake City. He was caught only because the flight had been fully booked and there was no place for him to sit.
According to a police affidavit submitted in federal district court, Wicliff Yves Fleurizard, of George, Texas now faces a felony for being a stowaway aboard an aircraft.
On March 17, security footage from the Salt Lake City Department of Airports showed Fleurizard talking with a man next to him while groups were being called up to board the Austin-bound plane.
Fleurizard is seen taking a picture with his smartphone as the man stands and unfolds his folded ticket. He shakes his hand with the man and then lines up for the flight.
According to the affidavit, the Texas man can be seen in the video allegedly taking photos of other passengers’ phones and passing at gate A2 Salt Lake City International Airport while they were not looking.
Fleurizard, after boarding the aircraft, opened a compartment for emergency equipment. According to the affidavit, a flight attendant thought he was lost and helped him find the toilet at the front.
Fleurizard stayed in the bathroom for “a significant amount of time”, but did not lock it. Documents said that he then went to the bathroom at the rear of the plane while other passengers were still milling around.
As the plane was taxiing down the runway, he told the flight attendant he had been assigned seat 21F. But there was already a girl traveling alone in that seat.
According to the document, the flight attendant determined the girl was a ticketed customer and that Fleurizard’s name did not appear in the records of the flight or any other Delta flight.
Fleurizard was arrested by Salt Lake City Police after the plane returned to the gate.

According to the affidavit, a friend had given Fleurizard an airline buddy pass, but both a flight on March 17th and another flight the day prior were full. He was rebooked for a flight that would depart later in the day.
Fleurizard told reporters that he was on a snowboarding vacation in Utah and was in a rush to meet his family visiting from Florida.
In their affidavit, a Salt Lake City Police Officer wrote: “Fleurizard acknowledged he made a mistake. He was just trying to get back home.”
