A grand jury in Arizona indicted 11 Arizona Republicans who were at the heart of the “fake” elector controversy in 2020. Republicans attempted to nominate “alternate electors” to Washington D.C., electors that supported the theory of the 2020 election being stolen.
Fraud, forgery, and conspiracy are among the charges brought against these 11 men.

Kelli Ward is among those accused. She served as the chair of the Arizona GOP in the months following the election in 2020. After the attack on the U.S. Capitol, she tweeted “Congress has adjourned” on Jan. 6, 2020. Ward, a persistent propagandist of false claims about Arizona’s rigged election results, sent the electors’ choice back to legislatures.
Other charged individuals include state legislators Anthony Kern, Jake Hoffman, and Michael Ward. Tyler Bowyer is the Republican National Committee Arizona Committeeman, and chief operating officer for the Trump-aligned Turning Point USA. Greg Safsten was the former Arizona GOP Executive Director. Former U.S. Senate Candidate Jim Lamon. Robert Montgomery, former head of Cochise County GOP.
They signed a document claiming that they were the 11 electors of the state. The 11 Republicans met with the Arizona GOP headquarters one month after the election in 2020. The letter was posted on social media, and it was sent to Congress.
In the indictment, “unindicted conspirator 1” is also mentioned. This is believed to refer to former President Donald Trump.
