Simpson became embroiled in the murder trial after his arrest in June 1994 in connection with Nicole Brown Simpson’s brutal killing and that of Ron Goldman, her friend. Simpson was 46 at the time.
On October 3, 1995, the “trial for the century” concluded when he was found not guilty of the murders committed in 1994. The acquittal occurred nine months after the trial started — or approximately 16 months after Brown Simpson, Goldman and their bodies were discovered outside of her Los Angeles home.
Simpson is widely considered a legend in the running back world — perhaps the greatest running back of all time. But his fame has been eclipsed by his double murder trial, which involved his ex-wife as well as her friend.
The Buffalo Bills chose him as the first overall pick in the 1969 NFL draft. He played 11 seasons for the NFL.
