FBI Launches Criminal Probe, Seeks Documents from CA Treasurer’s Office

Ashley Zavala, a California journalist who is known for her tenacity and courage, reports that the FBI requested documents from the California State Treasurer’s Office Monday. According to Zavala, according to her sources, these documents are part of a subpoena issued by a federal grand juror in a case that hasn’t yet been made public. The office is currently gathering information.

A spokesperson for State Treasurer Fiona Ma has confirmed that the office was contacted by an agency of law enforcement seeking documents. The office is cooperating. The spokesman was unable to say whether the documents related to Fiona Ma or the office in general.

The FBI spokesperson said that she could not confirm or deny any investigation.

If the Treasurer’s Office requires representation in this case, it is expected that the California Department of Justice will provide it.

Ma is a Certified Public Accounting and has declared that she will run for Lieutenant Governor in 2026. A former high-ranking woman employee is currently suing her for sexual harassment.

Judith Blackwell was the former chair of the California Tax Credit Allocation Committee. She filed a lawsuit in July 2021 six months after being fired, alleging sexual harassment, racial bias, and wrongful termination. Ma said the allegations were without merit, and filed a motion for dismissal.

In the lawsuit, it was alleged that Ma rented out hotel rooms in Sacramento and a house for her staff to stay at after they worked late. Blackwell claimed that Ma had called her several times into her bedroom, exposed her bare backside, and at least once climbed in Blackwell’s bed with her.

According to court documents, the case could be tried this fall.

Ma held a variety of positions before she was elected State treasurer, including the CA Board of Equalization and the San Francisco Board of Supervisors. Ma is a member of the corrupt Democrat cabal which has run San Francisco over decades. She recently sent a letter in support of a lenient punishment for a former San Francisco probation officer who was involved in a massive bribery plot headed by Mohammed Nuru, a Willie Brown protégé and Gavin Newsom’s confidante.
