Monica Lewinsky Breaks the Internet: Taylor Swift-Themed Joke About Bill Clinton Goes Viral

Monica Lewinsky became a viral sensation on Wednesday after she joined a social media trend that involved one of Taylor Swift’s new songs. She was referencing her time at the White House when former President Bill Clinton was present.

Lewinsky posted a message on Thursday that had been viewed over 6 million times. It references “Who’s Afraid of Little Old Me?” by Swift. Swift’s new album “The Tortured Poets Department” is the song she referenced.

Social media users began sharing the lyrics of the song “You Wouldn’t Last an Hour in the Asylum Where They Raised Me” along with an image that referred to a personal story or memory from their past.

Lewinsky shared a picture of the White House along with Swift’s lyrics.

Lewinsky was a former White House Intern who found herself embroiled in a scandal in the 90s when she had an affair with Clinton, while he served as president. Clinton was impeached for the affair, but the Senate acquitted him and he served out the remainder of his presidency.

Lewinsky received praise for her tweets on social media. Some users said she “won” this trend. Some users suggested that everyone else who was referencing Swift should stop.

Lewinsky spoke out against cyberbullying and harassment online after the scandal. She co-produced “American Crime Story”‘s third season, which was centered on the Lewinsky/Clinton scandal.

The series was broadcast around the time of the 2020 presidential elections.

Stephen Colbert, the late-night host of Stephen Colbert’s show, hosted a Democratic fundraising event that featured Clinton alongside former President Barack Obama and President Biden.

The event raised more than $25 million to support Biden’s campaign for reelection. Attendees paid $100,000 for a photo with the three presidents.

Swift’s fans were surprised with 15 additional songs following the release of her album on Friday. Billboard reports that the album was the most streamed in a day on Spotify in history within 12 hours after its release.
