Post Office Delays Could Prolong Ballot Counting – Election Uncertainty Ahead

I’m not a conspiracy theorist. I would rather see incompetence and stupidity than evil intent. The current state of mail deliveries, which is dependent on a system largely unchanged since the 18th Century, makes me not feel confident about holding an election in which millions of votes are dependent.

This is a gross exaggeration. The US Postal Service has spent billions on the latest, most modern equipment available.

Why does it take so long to mail a few dozen miles away? Cross-country mail is given a higher priority than cross-town mail. This could spell trouble for the presidential election of 2024.

The postal service has financial problems. This is not unusual. The company has been in financial difficulties since the beginning and will not be in the black, no matter what they charge for first-class postage.

The postal service has a brand new distribution system, which it is still working out the kinks of.

They’ll have it figured in time for the next election… 2054.

NBCNews:

The Postal Service, which began rolling out a new system last fall, will funnel all of the nation’s packages and letters through a network of 60 regional centers — similar in concept to the hub-and-spoke model used by airlines. Postmaster General Louis DeJoy said the change was part of a larger $40 billion, 10-year overhaul of the Postal Service’s network. This will lower costs, improve reliability, and make it more competitive. The plan, however, has had the opposite effect in certain instances, according to the Office of the Inspector General for the Postal Service and members of Congress.

Leo Raymond is a former Postal Service Manager and the managing director of Mailers Hub.

Raymond explained that if you are a business you will be discouraged from using the mail because you want to make sure your items get to their destination.

Data published by the Postal Service Inspector General shows that 87% of the first-class, two-day mail nationwide arrived on time in the last three months of 2023. This is a decrease of 2.5 percentage points from the same period one year prior. The data revealed that only 70% of mail meant to be delivered in three to five working days arrived on time. This is a drop of 11 percentage points.

In a letter addressed to Louis DeJoy, Postmaster General, Senator Gary Peters of Michigan, said that the changes to USPS’s networks have raised serious concerns, including the possibility of a degraded service in rural areas due to fewer services, the delayed delivery of elections mail, which would be processed by out-of-state locations, and the critical health information, such as lab tests, not being processed on-the-same-day because of decreased transportation trips.

I am concerned about the litigation that both parties will initiate as close races won’t be decided until all the mail is delivered to the ballot-counting facility. The longer the count goes on, I am not as confident as Democrats about the outcome. This will make voters more skeptical that anyone is in control.

When people don’t vote in voting booths, something is lost. I can understand why people want to make voting easier and more convenient, but has anyone considered what we lose by allowing remote voting?
