Surging GOP: Odds of Seizing U.S. Senate Control on the Rise

Published on

Although the presidential race is the main story of this year, control of the House and Senate is also on the line. Democrats may be considered the favorites to take control of Congress, but Republicans are best positioned to not only win the majority in the U.S. Senate but to also hold it for multiple cycles.

Recent developments indicate that Republicans may flip more seats than anticipated.

Nevada is the first state. I had pretty much given it up, even though Trump barely lost in 2016 and 2020. Trump’s polling numbers have been consistently higher for some time.

Jacky Rosen appears to be losing support in her home state. The Cook Political Report is a nonpartisan organization that has a reputation for providing unbiased analysis. According to its findings, Rosen’s election status was changed from “Lean Democrat to Toss Up”.

Jessica Taylor, of the Cook Political Report, notes that “the Nevada shift might be a little surprising.” It’s a state that Democrats won in 2016 and 2020, at the presidential level. And Republicans haven’t been able to win statewide federal races here since 2012. Of the four states now listed as Toss-Up, this is probably the most difficult.”

Taylor’s statement is wrong. Nevadans will elect Republican Joe Lombardo to be their governor in 2022. It is important to note that Senator Catherine Cortez Masto, (D-Nev.), narrowly beat Republican Adam Laxalt.

Other elections deemed to be toss-ups include those in Ohio, Montana, and Arizona. Taylor argues there may also be other incumbent Democrats who are on defense that will see their “Lean Democrat’ designations recategorized into “Toss Up”.

Maryland could be the place to find such a race. A new poll shows that former Gov. In the general election, Larry Hogan (R), the Republican nominee for U.S. Senate, beats the two potential Democratic candidates in the race to replace retiring Senator Ben Cardin.

In a hypothetical matchup, a Goucher College survey released on Tuesday showed Hogan leading Alsobrooks with 4 points.

Undecided: 11 percent of respondents.

In a hypothetical contest between Hogan, and Trone, Hogan narrowly defeats the House Democrat by 43 percent to 42. Separately, 10 percent of voters said they weren’t sure.

The margin falls within the margin of error for this poll, which is plus or minus 3 percentage points.

Should former Gov. Our results show that if Larry Hogan wins the Republican primary, the race to succeed retiring U.S. Senator Ben Cardin will be very close. Mileah Kromer is the director of the Sarah T. Hughes Center. She said that Rep. David Trone and Prince George’s County Executive Angela Alsobrooks are both strong candidates. “Abortion, health care, and gun control are all important issues for Democrats. But public safety, economic growth, and tax issues top the list for voters.”

This puts a formerly safe Democratic seat in the competition column and they will have to spend resources to fight to keep it. Biden could be forced to run for the Democrat candidate in that seat if he is not too toxic politically.
