Former President Donald Trump, the presumptive Republican presidential candidate for 2024, appeared with Republican House Speaker Mike Johnson at a press conference held at Mar-a-Lago on Friday. The event was intended to announce details of a pending Congressional bill that will ensure illegal aliens do not hurt the integrity and fairness of U.S. election results in November, especially at the federal level.
Trump’s collegiality towards Johnson gave a hint of the tone of the day. He said: “He’s doing a good job under tough circumstances, and I appreciate him coming to Mar-a-Lago.” The former president then spoke of the chaos at the Southern Border since Joe Biden’s election:
President Trump: “We have millions of people coming into our country… they come from all over the world. Not just South America, they’re coming from all over the world.” pic.twitter.com/WntmHmc3Mg

He confirmed what we already knew: the chaos at the border is deliberate. Biden should immediately close the border. He said, “I did it.”

Then, it was Speaker Johnson’s turn. His remarks were masterful in how they linked the border crisis of the Biden Administration to the urgent matter of election integrity for 2024.

Johnson said that, since 1993 when the “motor voter” legislation was passed, drivers have been able to “register to vote at the time they obtain a license.” “If an individual claims, or states, that they are a US citizen, then they do not have to prove this.”
Johnson pointed out another problem:
States are not allowed to ask someone for proof of citizenship ….We believe this is a problem. The House Republicans will introduce a bill requiring proof of citizenship to vote. It is common sense…[ that we want only U.S. Citizens to vote in U.S. Elections.]
He said that the second part of the bill will “require” states to clean their voter lists:

The bill will also require the states to remove all non-citizens who are registered to vote from their voter lists. This is a major problem. It will give the states access to the databases of the Department of Homeland Security, and the Social Security Administration.
Congress is the entity responsible for overseeing federal elections. We can’t wait until widespread fraud occurs.
Trump has made some clever moves in recent days. He has shown his ability to make strides in retail politics and he has also stood as a united front for the Republican Party in the lead-up to this summer’s convention.
After months of dissonant tones of division in the GOP primary, it’s great to see this happen. This is something we all hope will continue.
