ASU Senior Upset Over Arrest During Pro-Hamas Protests

Published on

We have covered several pro-Hamas demonstrations that have taken place on university campuses throughout the country in the six months since the beginning of the Israel-Hamas conflict in Gaza.

We’ve presented journalists’ sincere attempts to get some protesters to explain their actions and words.

The pro-Hamas demonstrators have a new tactic: interrupting graduation ceremonies. In April I wrote that the University of Southern California had bowed to the violent threats of the protesters and their antisemitic rhetoric and canceled the 2024 graduation ceremony.

Arizona State University has also had to deal with “encampments” that were set up, but they did not get very far. They were just groups of protesters huddling in mass for a few days and nights. This was done in places where it was prohibited. Local TV coverage slowly but surely showed protesters being ripped away from their group by police.

Ben Brown, a reporter from Phoenix’s ABC-affiliated affiliate, was reporting on the legal fallout of the protests when he interviewed a senior who was triggered after learning that actions have consequences.

She repeats the phrase “the cause” a few times without giving much information about this important movement for which she is willing to sacrifice her future.

Brown reported Thursday that Brocker, one of 20 students, tried to sue ASU after being suspended, barred from campus, and prohibited from communicating with professors, but lost. ASU doesn’t play their games. What does that mean in terms of getting the coveted diplomas? Students can’t finish their final exams or complete coursework.

Brocker also answered the question about whether or not she would do it again. Her response says it all. This student hasn’t yet learned from her mistakes.
