Shockwaves in Golf World: Scottie Scheffler Arrested in Kentucky Just Days Before PGA Championship

Scottie Scheffler, who was hoping to win the first PGA Championship in his career, ended the day Thursday just a few strokes from the lead. However, Friday started with a rocky start.

Scheffler, who was preparing to play the second round at the Valhalla Golf Course, Louisville, Kentucky was arrested for allegedly failing to obey police orders.

ESPN reported Scheffler driving past a policeman in his SUV, which had markings on its door indicating that it was a PGA Championship car. The officer shouted for him to stop, and then attached himself to the vehicle until Scheffler’s car stopped about 10 yards later. ESPN reporter Jeff Darlington described it as “a misunderstanding with traffic flow,” as authorities were investigating an earlier traffic fatality.

Darlington told ESPN’s SportsCenter that Scheffler, who was stunned by what had happened, turned to me while he was handcuffed and asked, “Please help me.” “He was unaware of what was going on.” Darlington said in ESPN’s “SportsCenter.” It was very fast, very rapid, and very aggressive.

Darlington was told by an officer on the scene that “he is going to jail right now.” “He’s going to jail and you can’t do anything about it.”

Scheffler was arrested and booked at the Louisville Department of Corrections on Friday evening. He was charged with second-degree assault on a policeman (a felony), criminal damage, reckless driving, and disregarding traffic signals.

Scheffler had won four tournaments in five years, including his second Masters title. He spent the last three weeks in Dallas, waiting for his first baby’s birth on May 8, which occurred.
