Au revoir?

France’s Macron Dissolves the National Assembly and Calls for Snap Elections After Crushing EU Election Defeat

The fallout continues to spread as Belgium’s leftist Prime Minister, Alexander De Croo, announces his decision not to continue as Prime Minister as his party was also smoked.

He will still hand over his resignation on Monday to King Philippe of Belgium at the palace in Brussels, even though he’ll be overseeing a caretaker coalition until a new government is formed.

Both France and Belgium’s results indicate that Europe is moving to the right, as concerns about economic issues, immigration, and other factors are driving voters away.

Alexander De Croo, the Belgian Prime Minister, announced that he would resign due to the poor performance by his coalition during the country’s “Super Sunday” election, which saw voters vote for their regional representatives and their new European Parliament members, as well as their new Parliament.

The election results in Belgium were not a landslide, but the gains made by right-wing parties, and the collapse of two Green Parties, have been enough to change the political landscape. This makes the current centrist-globalist alliance untenable.

Some say that the results show a dramatic shift in the mindset of European voters.

Tweet continues:

Belgium: Prime minister resigns following his crushing defeat by the right.

Italy: Meloni’s Brother of Italy wins with a historic landslide.

Austria: FPO becomes the largest party and doubles its seats.

Spain: The right beats the left by 10%.

Luxembourg: First-ever seat for ADR.

A new coalition in Belgium may not be formed for some time. The Belgian system of parliamentary politics is quite different from ours, and it can be very difficult for a government to function.

De Croo, wiping away a tear at the corner of his eyes, told supporters that this was a difficult evening.

In Brussels and French-speaking Wallonia, the largest party was Mouvement Reformateur, a liberal French-speaking party. This set the country’s course for months of difficult coalition negotiations.

It’s clear that Europe is changing. The ramifications will become clearer as the elections progress. The term “right-wing,” often used by pundits, is not meant to mean that voters are turning to Nazism, white supremacy, or other extreme ideologies. Instead, many people use it to describe their frustration with uncontrolled immigration, globalism, and other progressive ideas.

Maybe a sleeping Giant has awoken on the Continent.
