California GOP Legislator Decimates Democrat’s Argument in Heated Reparations Debate

A surprise can be found over the transom. You can feel good for the rest of the day when you read an article about a California Republican lawmaker who reduced a Democrat to tears by using logic.

A California Democrat who is a Democrat held back her tears after a Republican legislator stated that it would not be fair for Asians or Latinos pay reparations to African Americans.

This exchange occurred on June 11 during a meeting of the California Assembly Committee on Judiciary. They were discussing SB 1331 which would create a “Fund for Reparations and Reparative Justice” in the state treasury. The California Democrats had been working for a month to come up with a plan for reparations to be paid to descendants of American slaves.

Assemblywoman Kate Sanchez, a Republican from Santa Margarita, said at the hearing: “I’m concerned about the proposal to facilitate reparations distribution”.

The “reparations horse squeeze” has a fundamental flaw: it requires people to pay money for people who have never been slaves. These people would pay for the money, and they would need to show that at least one person is alive who was a slave. Then they could go after those who still hold them.

Assemblywoman Sanchez has reduced Ash Kalra to tears with her logical explanation of the illogic.

Sanchez cited economics who analyzed the California reparations Taskforce proposal, and found that it may cost as much as $800 billion.

She replied, “That’s two-and-a half times our state budget. “To pay for that, we would have to increase taxes in a manner this state had never seen before. ”

The Republican legislator who is Hispanic pointed out that 55% are Latinos or Asians. Many of these immigrants are first or second-generation immigrants who “have nothing to do with slavery, Jim Crow laws or discrimination”.

She claimed that it is unfair to charge these people.

This is a classic example of political takedown.

Reparations drag down reality

Progressives often use the leftist argument “I want the government to take money from groups A and give it to group B.” The “progressive” view of things is reflected in the arguments that surround stupidity. For example, progressives often use the argument, “I want to take money from group A and give it to groups B.”

Let me give you an example. The majority of my relatives live in North America. They range from Nova Scotia to the Dakotas. They moved to Ohio later. I don’t own slaves, so would my debt be reduced to one-fourth of what it is?

Let’s say that someone shares the same ancestry as a former President whose mother was white and whose father is Kenyan. Did he have any right to compensation? No one in his family was affected by The Peculiar Institution before the Civil War. Should his white halves be responsible for his black halves if we assume he had some rights?

This idea is so absurd that I can’t find the right words to describe it. Let me explain with a metaphor. The idea of reparations would be to say, for example, that a black lawyer with an Ive League degree owes money to a white Appalachian miner.

This is not only lunacy, but the worst type of political pandering. Democrats now support it.
