Colorado Primary Shocker: Lauren Boebert Clinches Victory to Succeed Retired Rep. Ken Buck

Lauren Boebert, R-CO, has had a difficult year. She had a tough year. After narrowly winning in 2022 she divorced, underwent an emergency surgery for a blood clot, and then went through a humiliating public divorce. Boebert’s decision to move to Colorado’s Fourth Congressional District to run for the seat of retired Rep. Ken Buck was seen by many as an act of desperation or an admission that she had ended her career. Boebert was right on target with her political instincts. Boebert, amidst a large field of Republican candidates on Tuesday, won the primary election.

Boebert will now face Trisha Cavarese in the general election of November. She is a Democrat carpetbagger and former speechwriter to Richard Trumka.

The Associated Press reports that Republican Colorado Rep. Lauren Boebert has won the primary to replace former Rep. Ken Buck in her district. She defeated a crowded Republican field of candidates from her district.

Boebert chose to move from her district into Buck’s after she was faced with a difficult primary in 2022. Buck left Congress earlier that year. CBS News reported that the Coloradoan stated she made her decision to switch districts because she wanted a fresh start after a series of scandals in the district.

The Colorado Republican has also decided to not run in the special election that will take place in Buck’s district for the remainder of Buck’s term. Greg Lopez, the Republican candidate for the special elections, didn’t run for the entire term. If Boebert decided to run in the special elections, a special election would have been held for her seat in the 3rd district.

Boebert was congratulated by Elise Stefanik, the founder of E-PAC and chairperson of the GOP Conference.

The RNC predicts that the district will remain a Republican stronghold. The district voted by 19 percentage points for Donald J. Trump in 2020.
