The Democratic Socialists of America have sent AOC a letter addressed to “Dear John”. This shows that chaos reigns supreme in the Democrat Party, and on the Left generally. It was a declaration announcing the loss of support by the DSA for the congresswoman over her support for Israel.
The National Review has noted that the statement on Wednesday reads in part:
Many members supported the national endorsement, while also demanding that AOC show a greater level of commitment towards Palestinian liberation, the right to self-determination and an immediate end to Israel’s heinous crimes in Gaza, which aligns with DSA positions and expectations for socialists in government…This sponsorship is betrayal of all those who have risked their well-being to fight Israeli Apartheid and Genocide through political and direct actions in recent months and decades past.
It is not surprising that the move was made. Since October 7, the anti-Semitism displayed by the most vocal and ferocious incarnations on the Left is a display of bold, bright primary colors. The DSA cites AOC’s support for the Iron Dome as well as her refusal to boycott “Zionist” organizations.
DSA also has a problem with AOC’s meeting with Jewish leaders on the topic of anti-Semitism. The congresswoman organized a panel discussion with leaders from the Jewish Council for Public Affairs. The DSA claims that the Jewish Council for Public Affairs is a lobbying organization for the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance. What is the DSA’s problem with the IHRA? The DSA claims that the Alliance confuses anti-Semitism and anti-Zionism. National Review reported that the House adopted the IHRA definition of antisemitism in May.
The DSA commented that “this sponsorship is a betrayal of all those who have risked their well-being to fight Israeli Apartheid and Genocide through direct and political action in the past months and decades.”
First, the entitled, uneducated, and rabid miscreants who have terrorized people on college campuses and in other places in the United States have risked very little with their tantrums if anything at all. They have been allowed to be as vile and violent as they wish with impunity.
Second, since anti-Zionism is not the same as anti-Semitism how can the DSA explain the many documented acts of violence committed against Jews in universities and elsewhere? It cannot, and will not. It does not think that it must. The DSA members don’t think it is worth discussing the issue of violence against Jews in the name of fighting genocide and apartheid.
National Review reports that it is strangely odd that the New York Chapter of the DSA has not withdrawn its endorsement of AOC even after the Congresswoman criticized the chapter for their rally one day following the October 7th attacks. The DSA is also angry because AOC signed a release in support of congressional funding for Iron Dome, but she voted “present” on the bill.
I don’t think that AOC will suffer a major blow from the DSA withdrawing its endorsement (an endorsement that was given last month). The move does however reflect the anarchy which is a part of the Left. AOC has angered the DSA for not providing it with what they believe is due. AOC, on the other hand, filed articles of impeachment for the same reason against two Supreme Court Justices. The irony is only apparent to those who are logical.
