As AG, Kamala Harris Paved the Way for the First ‘Undocumented’ Attorney in the US

Published on

I am not an attorney nor do I portray one on TV, but I believe that an attorney is someone who has been admitted to practice as a lawyer and passed the bar exam. I think that they should have a legal standing that is above reproach. Even though I realize that this thought opens the door to every lawyer joke you can imagine, it is still worth mentioning.

It’s somewhat surprising that Kamala Harris assisted a person in the United States illegally to become an attorney. This is where the story begins:

Sergio Covarrubias Garcia avoided law enforcement for most of his adult life.

Garcia, then 17, prayed that the police would not stop the Chevy truck he and other undocumented immigrants used to cross the border. His anxiety only increased. Garcia wanted officers to turn away from him every time he drove to work or school.

He should have felt nervous. He was illegally in the country. He was brought in illegally. He entered and remained in the country illegally. He broke the law as soon as he entered the United States of America, which made him a criminal.

Here is the onion:

Garcia, despite his efforts in 2012, attracted the attention of California’s top police officer — Kamala Harris (then-Attorney-General and now presidential candidate) — despite her struggles. Garcia had been battling for years to become the first undocumented lawyer in the United States.

Harris surprised Garcia by coming out in his support. She then submitted a brief in support of his case and provided an attorney from her office who argued for him before the State Supreme Court.

Garcia, 47, stated that it was a huge relief to know that California’s “top cop” did not hate him for being undocumented and wanted me to reach my dream. That was huge.

It is because Kamala Harris, at the time, the Attorney General for the State of California and the top law enforcement officer in that state, did not care a jot if Garcia was in this country illegally. She also didn’t care if his entry into the country was illegal, or if he violated immigration laws every day that he was there. She denied this very notion. The first layer is that Kamala Harris was tacitly supporting someone who was in the United States illegally and was also trying to become a court officer while in the US illegally. Second, Garcia applied for and was expecting to receive a visa, which was never to be issued without him being deported to his country and having to go through legal processes to reenter.

This is the innermost layer and most stinky of an onion.

Harris’ office stated that “It is neither a crime to be in the United States or to work there without an immigration status and Garcia has not been charged with committing the crime of illegal entry.” Garcia was upfront with federal officials about his immigration status and has been granted a visa as soon as one is available.

This statement is from the office of someone who is supposed to be in charge of law enforcement: “It’s not a criminal offense to be in the United States or to work there without an immigration status …” It is, in fact, a criminal offense.

Indeed, Garcia was never charged with the crime of “illegal entry” but it is a federal issue. California does not enforce immigration laws, but many California jurisdictions had a bad habit at the time of blocking immigration authorities. (And since 2017, it is illegal for any government entity in California to work with federal immigration officers unless in very specific circumstances.) This attitude, which is common among the left, is unacceptable. They deny that someone who breaks the law as their first action when crossing our border is a criminal.

Sergio Garcia is not a drug dealer, he’s not a murderer or a rapist, but if he’d come here legally, he might be a good citizen. We are either a country of laws, or we’re not. And when it comes down to immigration, the left, including Kamala Harris, is willing to ignore or deny the law. Garcia should have been sent back to Mexico and forced to go through the legal process. That’s a proven fact.

It’s a sneak preview of what a Kamala-Harris presidency could look like. She would ignore the law and deny its existence whenever she wanted. She has been on record saying that when she was AG of California, the state began offering driver’s licenses to illegal immigrants – in essence, a state-issued identification that made it much easier to stay in the country without permission. She was dubbed the “Border Czarina?” The Harris campaign, as well as the national Democrats, have denied this ever since. She did nothing to control the oozing wound that is the southern border.

It is one of the many reasons why the republic can’t afford a Kamala-Harris presidency.
