New Poll: Michelle Obama Triumphs Over Trump as Potential Biden Replacement

When Democrats start floating Michelle Obama’s name as a potential presidential nominee, you can tell they are desperate.

It appears they are once again desperate after President Joe Biden’s poor performance in Thursday’s debate with former President Donald Trump. This is why they have floated the Michelle Obama concept for what feels like the 4,952,963rd time.

Democrats point to a Reuters/Ipsos survey that shows Michelle Obama would beat Trump if she entered the race. In a comparison with the former president, half of the respondents chose Obama while only 39 percent chose Trump.

All of the potential Biden replacements, including California Gov. Gavin Newsom is the Vice President Kamala Harris and Michigan Governor. Gretchen Whitmer is the Kentucky governor. Andy Beshear and Illinois Governor J.B. Pritzker, all lost to Trump in the poll. J.B. Pritzker and Andy Beshear all lost in the poll to Trump.

Michelle Obama has a higher rating of favorability than Biden or Trump. She was the sole person who received a majority of favorability from respondents.

The poll revealed that many participants believed Biden and Trump both should drop out of the race.

After the debate, more than half of Americans believe that Biden should withdraw from the race for the presidency. Under half of Americans say Trump should withdraw. Democrats are more likely to say that Biden should step down than Republicans. There are also differences based on race and ethnicity.

Nearly three-quarters (56%) of Americans believe Biden should withdraw from the race after the debate. Only (46%) of Americans said Trump should withdraw from the race after the debate. This is ten points less than the percentage of Americans who said the same for Biden.

Just 11% of Republicans believe Trump should withdraw after the debate. However, 32% of Democrats think Biden should also withdraw.

Biden and Trump are both favored by independents.

Steve Benen, the producer of “The Rachel Maddow Show” wrote an article for MSNBC where he claimed Obama’s lead in polls “sort of” mattered. He pointed out that Obama had repeatedly stated that she did not intend to run for President, but the numbers showed that “Obama’s polling leads suggest there’s a wide political appetite for someone else than the former president.”

He is not wrong about that last point. If, by some miracle, Democrats replace Biden, they cannot run with an ordinary candidate. If the poll is accurate, even the most well-known names would lose to Trump. Newsom has the best chance since Trump only defeated him by a single percentage point.

The chances that Democrats will be able to find someone as popular as Michelle Obama is about the same as the chance of Rep. Alexandria Ocasio Cortez being able to impeach the Supreme Court.

It seems that Democrats will be stuck with Uncle Joe in this election.
