On Tuesday, Rep. Darrell Issa (R-Calif.) called on Vice President Kamala Harris, also from California, to persuade her supporters and anti-Israel advocates to refrain from gathering at the Capitol on Wednesday. This appeal comes ahead of Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu’s address to a joint session of the House and Senate.
In a press release, Issa warned that tens of thousands of protesters could “potentially shut down Congress.”
The Capitol Police has told members and staff of an estimated 25,000 protestors – almost exclusively supporters and allies of the expected Democratic Presidential nominee Kamala Harris – who will descend upon the House of Representatives on Wednesday to protest Prime Minister Netanyahu’s speech in a joint meeting of both the House of Representatives and the Senate.
Capitol Police and House Administration began sharing their plans and procedures last night. The Capitol Police and House Administration also discussed the closure of several House entries and the restriction on visitors who aren’t accompanied at all times. Already, fencing and barriers have been installed. There will be more barriers and fencing throughout the day.
Vice President Harris should acknowledge the dangers that this all poses. Tell your supporters not to descend on the Capitol. They shouldn’t force their way into the Capitol. Above all, they must not prevent the peaceful entry of ordinary citizens into the People’s House.
