Sen. Jon Tester, D-MT, refused to support Kamala Harris in her bid for the presidency on Thursday. This comes one day after he said it was more important to elect Harris than to win his re-election as Montana’s senior senator.

Tester held a press event in Missoula, where he revealed that he did not want Harris to be his “nationalized” re-election candidate.

This is not about national politics. Tester stated that this is about Montana.

The Montana Democrat said that it was more crucial to elect Harris to his reelection than to support calls for Joe Biden’s withdrawal from the 2024 presidential election.

“Mine’s not the most important; it’s at the top. A lot is at stake. Democracy, rural America, and how we treat each other are all at stake. “There’s a great deal at stake,” said the Montana Democrat during a Missoula rally.

Many things are happening in the world. Leadership is needed to get people to work together and find solutions. This doesn’t imply that you compromise your principles, or do anything stupid. “That means you bring people to the table, to get them on the same page to solve problems,” Tester added.

Multiple polls show that Tim Sheehy, the Montana Republican Senate candidate, is leading Tester.

“This embarrassing backtrack represents the latest in a long line of flip-flops by a two-faced, desperate politician who lies as freely as he breaths. Jon Tester always votes for Kamala, but he doesn’t want to defend his record. So he lies to the voters about whom he supports as President,” National Republican Senatorial Committee spokeswoman Maggie Abboud stated in a statement.
