A manhunt has been launched for an Arizona sex offender who allegedly threatened the assassination of former President Donald Trump on his visit to the U.S.-Mexico border on Thursday.
The Daily Mail reported that Ronald Lee Syvrud, a 66-year-old white man, who is 6 feet tall and weighs 220 lbs, made unspecified threats via social media.
According to a press release issued by the sheriff’s office, Syvrud has several open warrants, including DUI, failure to appear, and hit-and-run charges in Arizona.
The 2023 mugshot provided by the police shows Syvrud with light-colored eyes, white hair, and a mustache.
Mark Dannels, the Cochise County sheriff, did not specify what threats were made against the former President. However, he told The Daily Mail that the security at the border of Sierra Vista where Trump will be speaking has been increased because it is an “open venue.”
The alleged threats of assassination come only six weeks after a 20-year old gunman Thomas Matthew Crooks attempted to kill Trump during a rally for inauguration in Butler, Pennsylvania.

Trump was injured by a bullet that grazed his ear, but Corey Comperatore, a member of the audience, was shot and killed in front of family members. Two other men were also wounded.
The Daily Mail viewed records that showed Syvrud had been a registered Democrat in the past and had a lengthy criminal record, including a conviction for sexual assault on a child of the second degree.
We will find him. Dannels told the crowd that he would be sent to prison. He’s a registered sexual offender in Cochise County and we were searching for him. He is out of compliance, which is part of his violation. We’re on the lookout for him.”
“We’re going arrest him for that.” His pulse was also clearly directed towards this event. We want to speak to him about it,” said the sheriff.
The Cochise County Sheriff’s Office has reported that the suspect has been taken into custody.
