Massachusetts Republicans have submitted a formal request for information to the Bay State government regarding the alleged secret expenditure of $1 billion in the migrant crisis.
In a release, MassGOP demanded that Gov. Maura’s Healey administration provide a breakdown of the costs incurred by state residents as a result of the migrant crises.
Amy Carnevale of the MassGOP said that the Healey-Driscoll Administration has kept secret information on 600 incidents involving police, firefighters, and EMTs. At every opportunity, the administration has prevented journalists from providing information to the public.
Carnevale asked, under the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA), for details of the state funding provided to house migrants.
Carnevale asked in the FOIA Request that the Healey Administration give names of private and public entities providing emergency accommodation to migrants, as well as the location of emergency housing. She also requested any correspondents who may have concerns about public safety, and incident reports or police reports.
Carnevale claimed that the supermajority Democrats have created a “veil of secrecy” around the migrant crisis.
She stated, “Today, the Massachusetts Republican Party is against the veil of secrecy and the obstructionist attempts by the Healey Driscoll administration and Democratic supermajority. “We are with the Massachusetts media in saying that enough is enough. We want to inform the public about the vendors profiting from this crisis and safety concerns. ”
Carnevale added, “We are demanding accountability for Massachusetts residents.”
The MassGOP’s request came after the Center for Immigration Studies published a report on July 24th. The report predicted that Massachusetts would struggle to cope with the growing number of migrants coming into the state.
According to the report, the state has already spent more than $1 billion on its Emergency Assistance Sheltering Program for migrants.
“The cost of housing is high for those in temporary shelters, but it pales in comparison to the costs they would accrue if they stayed there on a longer-term basis,” Jessica Vaughan, Director of Policy Studies at CIS, wrote.
The taxpayer must also pay for education, social services, and health care.
According to the report, there were 355,000 “illegal migrants” in Massachusetts. It was also noted that 10,000 migrants were minors and 8,500 were unaccompanied.
