The actor Julian Ortega, a recent Netflix star, died suddenly on Spain’s Zahora Beach. He was 41.
According to the Daily Mail, the actor collapsed after suffering a heart attack in a beach bar near Marbella.
The first responders tried for a half-hour to revive the actor but to no avail. The actor was unable to be revived even with a defibrillator.
Early reports of the actor’s death claimed that he drowned. In reality, he suffered a heart attack and collapsed at the beach.
Ortega, a native Madridian, was well-known for his roles in Caronte (2010) and Elite (2018) as well as Nunc Et In Hora (2010).
Netflix began streaming the first eight seasons of Elite, and the actor was only now exposed to a global audience. The series is about an elite high school and three students from the working class who enroll there.
According to Deadline, Spain’s actors’ union confirmed the death. In a statement, they said “We send our sincerest condolences” to the actor’s friends and family.
Others also expressed their condolences. One of them was Spanish actress Silvia Marso, who in an Instagram post featuring a picture of her with Ortega said that she felt “absolute sorrow” at the news.
In her tribute, she also called Ortega “a tremendous actor” and described him as “upright” & “honest”.
Paco Collado, a Spanish actor, co-star, and writer, also shared his thoughts on social media. He wrote (in English): “It was a pleasure to play [Julian Ortega] as your father in [“The Countryside”. You left us with empathy, generosity, and professionalism. Many hugs to you friend, and to your family. A real shame to be in your prime of youth. RIP Julian.”
