Texas School District Bans Pronouns That Differ From Birth Certificates

Texas public school district has banned the use of pronouns that do not match the biological sex or gender of students. This ban is in place regardless of gender identification and pronoun preferences.

Fox 4 reported on the controversial Keller Independent School District policy that will require teachers to refer to students by using pronouns according to their gender on birth certificates.

If their child asks to use a pronoun or name other than the one they are currently using at school, parents must be informed. The parents must write an official note granting permission for the school to use alternate names or pronouns to refer to their child.

Students have protested against this policy. At a public comment session, a high school senior stated that the district had a “political agenda”.

I suffer every day along with my classmates. Kennedy Schultz stated that the school district seems to prioritize budget cuts and political agendas above the health and well-being of its students.

Madison Hickman, a senior (again) called it “hate.”

“You’ve created an environment where fear and isolation might just become the norm for our most vulnerable students. I hope this brings you the kind of community you’re striving for, one where conformity is valued over compassion. Hate is not a Keller ISD value,” she said.

Fox 4 reported, that despite the American Civil Liberties Union’s (ACLU) warnings that the policy is discriminatory, that the board has passed it.

Keller ISD also made the news in 2022 when it removed dozens of books for review. The Bible was included in this.
