Ukraine Behind Nord Stream Explosion Despite Zelenskyy’s Failed Attempt to Halt It

Published on

The Wall Street Journal published an exclusive report Wednesday evening that Ukraine is behind the September 2022 Nord Stream Pipeline explosion. While Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy attempted to stop it, one of his top officers defied him by doing it anyway.

It’s still a mystery who was behind the explosion that destroyed a major Russian natural gas export route. Theories have circulated, including the CIA, Ukrainians, or the Russians.

This is the most comprehensive report yet.

In February of this year, the Danish and Swedish investigations ended inconclusively. A few months later, the UN acknowledged that it had “no further details” about who was responsible for the attack.

The Wall Street Journal, however, published a fuller story on Wednesday that purportedly describes what happened.

The report said that a crew of six Ukrainian-backed divers chartered a pleasure boat 50 feet long from Germany and sailed to the Baltic Sea. They then planted explosive charges in the pipeline.

All began on a boozy evening:

According to those who took part, the Ukrainian operation cost about $300,000. The operation involved a small yacht and a crew of six including civilian divers. One of the women was there to create the impression that they were friends on a cruise.

One officer involved in the plot stated, “I always smile when I read media speculations about some massive operation involving secret service, drones, satellites, and submarines.” The plot was hatched after a night filled with heavy drinking and the determination of a few people who were willing to risk their lives in the service of their country.

Zelenskyy initially agreed to the project but later changed his mind.

According to three people who were familiar with the situation and one officer involved, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky approved the plan at first. Those people claim that when the CIA learned about the plan and asked the Ukrainian President to stop it, he ordered a halt.

Valeriy Zaluzhniy was Zelensky’s commander-in-chief, and he led the effort.

Zaluzhniy responded to the article, denying that he was or Ukraine involved, and stating that anyone who claimed otherwise is guilty of “mere provocation.”

It is not the first instance that investigators have accused Ukraine. They have been shrouded in suspicion from the very beginning.

For several months, there have been numerous reports that point to the Ukrainians as being responsible for the events. Many of these details match those in The Journal.

The Washington Post, Der Spiegel, and a joint investigation also linked Chervinsky and Ukraine to the attack. A New York Times report from last year said that a Ukrainian group is also behind the attack.

The Journal’s newest report is the first time Zelenskyy has been implicated in the attack.

However, the report won’t make the Germans very happy. The cost of being forced to use alternative energy sources for them is estimated at $1 million per day.

This mystery has been solved, at least according to the WSJ.
