JD Vance, a Republican Senator from Ohio, said on NBC’s “Meet the Press” that Donald Trump will veto a nationwide abortion ban if the law is passed during his second term.
The host Kristen Welker stated, “Abortion is being discussed on the campaign trail. Democrats have been arguing this week and for weeks that Donald Trump will ban abortions if he is elected. Donald Trump claims he will not, but can senators, who are sitting with me right now, commit that they won’t impose a ban on abortion if Donald Trump and you both win the election?
Vance replied, “I am certain of that, Kristen. Donald Trump was as clear as possible about this. What has Donald Trump said about abortion and how does it differ from what Kamala and the Democrats said? Donald Trump wants this culture war to be over on this topic. If California wants a different policy on abortion than Ohio, California must respect Ohio and Ohio must respect California.”
Welker replied, “Senator Graham told me I would keep saying there should be a federal ban.” Would Donald Trump veto such legislation if it landed on his desk?
Vance replied, “I’ll.” He will be very clear, he won’t support it.”
Welker asked, “Will it be a veto?”
Vance replied, “Yeah if you don’t support it.”
Welker asked, “So would he veto an abortion ban at the federal level?”
Vance replied, “I believe he would.”
