Why Is the UAW Supporting Hamas?

If I am not mistaken, the United Auto Workers’ primary goal is to make sure that Americans working for major automakers and their subsidiaries industries receive good pay, benefits, and job security.

If so, why do they complain? How does this to relate to the interests of American auto workers? It appears in an X-post from Thursday that the UAW is doing that as well.

One more thing: The purpose of the Democratic National Convention is to put on the pretense of nominating the Democratic presidential and vice-presidential candidates. (Yes, we all know that in this cycle, that’s a sham; the decision was made weeks ago when they pulled the plug on the Biden reelection effort.) So why must they allow a “Palestinian American” to speak? To what end, other than virtue-signaling?

Yes, I know, I just answered my question. For Democrats, virtue-signaling has always been a good enough reason in itself. And I won’t even get into the UAW not knowing that the United States is a constitutional republic, not a democracy. But the UAW shilling for Hamas — that’s a new one.

If the Democrats, or anyone else, wants lasting peace in Gaza, or at least what passes for lasting peace in that part of the world, here are some conditions Israel might lay out that could achieve that goal.

1) Israel can set some conditions to achieve what it perceives as a lasting peace in Gaza.

2) Hamas is required to immediately release all remaining hostages, whether dead or alive.

3) Hamas militants who took part in Israel’s invasion of October 2023, and Gazans holding hostages or helping them will be prosecuted for war crimes.

4) Hamas leaders from Qatar or any other country should be extradited to Israel for trial on war crimes.

5) Hamas must disband its infrastructure in Gaza. Hamas, current or former, is permanently barred from holding any elected or appointed position in Gaza.

This seems like a good start. Get on your friends in Gaza. Tell them to surrender their hostages and stop the fighting.

Israel can only hope for a temporary, but peaceful peace that will allow them to breathe. Hezbollah is still in Lebanon, just north of Israel. It has tens of thousands of fighters, as well as weapons from Iran.

I hope that the UAW ranks and files are slamming union officials for their obvious pandering.
