A woman faces murder and assault charges after allegedly driving her SUV into a crowd in downtown Minneapolis. She killed a teenager and injured at least five others.

The Hennepin County Attorney’s Office on Tuesday announced charges of second-degree murder and five counts of second-degree assault with a dangerous weapon against 22-year-old Latalia Anjolie Margalli of Minneapolis. Court records do not list an attorney for Margalli, and she has no listed phone number. She is jailed on $1.5 million bond.

According to a criminal complaint, two groups were involved in a dispute early on Saturday morning when an SUV drove into a crowd and killed De’Miaya Brome.

In a press release, Hennepin County attorney Mary Moriarty stated that “this was a devastating criminal act”. “Ms. Margalli’s decision to crash her car into people in a crowd has left De’Miaya’s parents with a huge void.

Margalli, her friends, and De’Miaya were involved in an “altercation” according to the complaint. Margalli was accused of driving her SUV straight into a crowd without stopping, hitting De’Miaya as well as several other people.

The complaint stated that the police found the SUV shortly after, in part thanks to a person who had followed the vehicle.

De’Miaya died at the hospital. Moriarty’s office reported that injuries suffered by others included broken limbs and a brain injury.
