Rep. Jasmine Crockett, a Texas congresswoman, went berserk during a hearing on Wednesday. She screamed about “oppression” and the “white man” during a hearing Wednesday. Some would call this racist. Democrats call it normal, however depraved.

Crockett went insane while discussing the “Dismantle DEI Act”, which aims to eliminate DEI within the federal government. It has been identified as a priority by the incoming Trump Administration.

CROCKETT: Then you can misuse words such as oppression. The white man has not been oppressed in this country. Tell me which white man has been dragged from their homes. Tell me which white man was dragged across the ocean, told to go work, and that we would steal his wives or rape his wives. This did not happen. This is oppression.

Crockett’s argument is a logical error. The ranking of oppression is not the same as a ranking system. You can be oppressed without having been enslaved (although many white people were enslaved in history). DEI initiatives don’t suddenly become more important just because another person was discriminated against in worse ways. Crockett was never enslaved, or even close.

A student from Asia who is denied college admission despite higher test scores or a better GPA is oppressed in some way. Crockett would like to discredit this because slavery was around for nearly two centuries. This is not only stupid, but it’s also morally offensive. Injustice does not have a winner.

CROCKETT: We did not ask to be in this place. We’re not the same migrants you’ve been dealing with for years. We did not run away from our home. We were stolen. We were stolen.

Here, there is no “we”. No matter how badly Democrats want to, victimhood doesn’t transfer from one generation to the next. Jasmine Crockett has many advantages that other white people do not have. She wasn’t “stolen.” She earns nearly $200,000 per year just to make her sound stupid during hearings. She may only know victimhood, but she’s not a real victim. She is not oppressed.

It should not be necessary to say that I do not deny historical injustices, especially those committed against African Americans. Crockett’s remarks were true and wrong. But that doesn’t give her the right to use them to spread racism in her current position. If someone said the same things as Crockett but instead started screaming about “the Black Man”, they would be censured by Congress and kicked out. It is not acceptable to have a two-tiered system. Everyone in the House must have a basic respect for others.

These arguments about victimhood are utterly ridiculous. Crocket has no right to use historical injustice as an explanation for his behavior, any more than a man of color is entitled to do so because his ancestors in Europe were murdered. Many terrible people in history have done terrible things. It is not helpful to use this as an excuse for perpetuating racism in modern times. It is corrosive and harmful to society. Crockett ought to be ashamed of her actions. Crockett won’t, but she should.
