Robert F. Kennedy Jr. said that there are “entire departments,” within the Food and Drug Administration, which “have to be eliminated.”
Kennedy stated in an interview with MSNBC that “in some categories, there are whole departments like the nutrition department of the FDA that need to be eliminated, because they are not doing their jobs, and are not protecting our children.”
Kennedy, who had initially run as a Democratic presidential candidate and then as an Independent in August, endorsed Trump as President-elect.
Trump’s victory in the presidential election set Kennedy up to be a winner, and he is likely to have a role in health care in the Trump administration.
Kennedy said last week that Trump had assured him that he would have a role at the White House should he win the presidential election.
“We don’t know what I’m going to be doing,” Kennedy told Fox News anchor Martha MacCallum that he had spoken to President Obama about the matter yesterday. “He asked me what I was looking for, and I replied, we are developing a plan now.” Kennedy made the statement during an interview with MacCallum. She asked Kennedy if he would be appointed Health and Human Services Secretary.
This job would need Senate confirmation. Kennedy’s confirmation is not certain, even though Republicans are likely to hold a Senate majority of at least 52. Many have speculated that Kennedy will serve in a position that doesn’t require Senate confirmation.
Howard Lutnick, the co-chair of Trump’s transition team, recently said Kennedy is “not getting a job” as HHS leader.
Kennedy said that he wouldn’t eliminate any agencies if it required congressional approval.
He added, “I can remove the corruption from the agencies.”
