President-elect Donald Trump has asked his legal team to fill three of the top positions at the Department of Justice following the Attorney General.
Todd Blanche is a veteran of the Department of Justice and a former prosecutor who supervised the Southern District of New York. He has been nominated as the Deputy Attorney-General, which is the second position in this agency. Blanche was Trump’s principal defense attorney in both his federal and New York cases.
Emil Bove and Blanche were co-counsels in Trump’s trial. He was also a federal prosecutor with extensive experience who worked in the Southern District of New York.
John Sauer will be the US solicitor general. He is the former Missouri solicitor general and won Trump’s case of immunity before the Supreme Court.
These appointments demonstrate that the focus on Matt Gaetz was mostly a sham. The team is not just Trump’s; it has worked very well together. Two of them are experienced trial lawyers who know the Department of Justice. These are the men who will run Justice’s daily operations and will make any substantive changes to that agency.
The great minds of the Department of Justice who handled the legal cases against Trump associates and jaywalkers on January 6, and the pro-life grandmothers may have entered the FO stage of FAFO.
