According to multiple reports, Gerry Connolly (D-VA) defeated Alexandria Ocasio Cortez, DNY, in a landslide Tuesday, and is now the top-ranking member of the House Oversight Committee.

The establishment won a major victory with Ocasio Cortez’s defeat. The system is tightly controlled by the party bosses who disagree with Ocasio-Cortez’s anti-establishment views.

Ocasio Cortez’s previous attempt to gain acceptance by the Democratic establishment did not work. She defended them from Republican investigations of their business dealings.

According to multiple reports, Democrats rejected her bid for the position of top Democrat on the Oversight Committee by a vote of 131-84 in the House.

Connolly beat Ocasio-Cortez despite his cancer battle.

The process of assigning members to committees is highly politicized. Party leaders from both Democratic and Republican Parties assign members to the committees at the start of each Congress. A simple resolution is approved on the House floor that elects the committee members.

Party clout, previous fundraising, and party clout are factors that will help you get an assignment. Ocasio-Cortez has only recently started transferring money raised to the Democrat Party. This could harm her chances.

James Comer (R-KY), the chairman of the House Oversight Committee, appeared to support Ocasio Cortez last week in her bid to become the top Democrat of his committee.

This endorsement appears to be a jab at current ranking member Jamie Raskin who is running for the top position in the Judiciary Committee. He is most likely to leave the oversight committee.

Comer said that Raskin’s relationship with Comer in the oversight committee was not good. Ocasio Cortez would be welcome to replace Raskin.

“I did not have a good relationship with Jamie,” Comer said. “I don’t think that’s any secret. I tell the press when they ask about the race for ranking member: The Democrats have nowhere to go but up after having Jamie you’re asking for the last four years.”

Comer said, “I am a big AOC fan.”

Comer stated on CNN that he was looking forward to working with the next ranking member, and he believed we would have a good working relationship if AOC were chosen. “We’ll have many policy differences, but I think she is a good candidate to represent Democrats in this position. She speaks well and has a lot of energy. ”
