The devastation of Los Angeles is evident in new aerial photos. It appears that entire neighborhoods have been wiped from the map. The fires continue to rage and have caused massive damage.
The Democratic leadership seems to be completely absent in action with the responses we have seen from people such as Mayor Karen Bass and Gov. Gavin Newsom.
Newsom was even confronted with a woman who was in a desperate situation after losing her home. He claimed to be on the phone talking to Joe Biden. He then claimed that he was trying a get a signal from his cell phone to reach Biden. I wonder if this was true because, depending on the time of day, Biden may have been in a meeting.
Biden gave a brief press conference on the response of his staffers after Biden’s huddle. He called it the “worst fire” in Los Angeles, ever. Joe was scrambled, but that’s just Joe. He was struggling to get his words out and couldn’t even remember the number people could call to ask for help. If they have “lost something of consequence.”

I’ll give him this much, he did better than Karen Bass did with just saying, “U R L.” At least he got something out; if you were not able to figure that number out, the website was clearer, “DisasterAssistance.gov.”
Biden then turned to Harris and asked her to take the lead, noting she was “directly impacted.” Biden replied, “No pun meant.” Kamala looked at him as if she couldn’t believe that he had said it.
BIDEN: “Fire away. No pun intended.”

Joe, it’s not the right time to make puns. Do you still have any common sense? Joe is probably asking a rhetorical query at this point.
He was right that she would be “directly impacted.” The Brentwood home of Doug Emhoff and Kamala Harris is currently under evacuation orders. Her press secretary stated that no one is currently inside the house and they are praying for all involved. Biden stated that they were monitoring the situation and offered federal assistance to those who were affected.
Last night, the Vice President’s neighborhood in Los Angeles was put under an evacuation order. No one was in her home at the time. She and the Second Gentleman are praying for the safety of their fellow Californians, the heroic first responders, and Secret Service personnel.

The Vice President and President continue to closely monitor the wildfires, remain in touch with state and local officials, and have offered any federal assistance that is needed to help respond and recover from this terrible disaster.

Biden stated that the federal government will cover all aid for 180 days. This includes “debris removal and temporary shelters as well as salaries for first responders.” He declared the disaster a major catastrophe so that people would be able to “access resources and funds” and authorized federal firefighting responders. He said that the wind was likely to continue through next week and could hinder efforts to combat the fire.
According to reports, he also canceled his trip to Italy in order to “seek solace” from the Pope. He did something for others, not himself. Many people were in need of real comfort after this tragedy.
At this stage, over 28,000 acres of land have been affected. Five people have died; hundreds of thousands have evacuated.
