Jabrill Peppers, the New England Patriots safety, is due to be tried Thursday for domestic violence.
Peppers, 29 years old, was arrested in October last year for allegedly pushing his girlfriend’s face into a wall at his Braintree residence and choking her repeatedly.
He pleaded not guilty to charges of assault with a dangerous object and possession of a Class B cocaine-like substance.
The police said that Peppers’ girlfriend did not want to go to the hospital, and she was treated in her home.
Peppers has missed seven games after being placed on the exempt list of the Commissioner on October 9 in response to the incident. On Nov. 25, he was removed from this list and his position as team captain was lost.
Due to injury, he only played in two of the Patriots’ final five games.
The Patriots’ current contract with him runs until 2027.
