The video of Selena Gomez crying and displaying the Mexican flag with the caption “All my people getting attacked” has been removed from her social media page. This is in response to the immigration crackdown by the Trump administration.
According to reports, the Instagram clip of the star crying from “Only Murders in the Building”, was posted on Monday and then deleted.
Gomez is seen in the video wiping away her tears while her voice breaks.
“I just want to express my sincere regrets. All of my people are being attacked. Even children. I don’t get it,” said the 32 years old Emmy Award-nominated actress, as she looked at an image of a Mexican flag.
“I’m sorry. I wish I could help, but I’m not able to. I don’t even know where to begin. I’ll do everything I can, I promise,” Gomez said.
The video Gomez posted on Instagram for her more than 420,000,000 followers coincides with President Trump’s increased efforts at the border and on deportation. Last week, Trump sent active-duty soldiers to the border to help federal, state, and local law enforcement officials deal with migrants he described as “invading”.
Trump also reportedly gave immigration officers daily arrest targets to meet. The courts blocked his executive order to stop birthright citizenship.
Gomez wrote an op/ed in 2019 for Time magazine, reflecting on the number of family members who entered the United States starting in the 1970s.
She wrote that immigration “is more than a political issue” and is a “human issue.”
She commented that after deleting the video she posted on Monday, “Apparently, it’s not okay to show empathy towards people.”
