The Fort Worth Independent Schools District in Texas is investigating a substitute who allegedly posted on social media, “Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s (ICE) need to visit North Side High School because many of the students don’t speak English.”
The school has said that the teacher won’t be allowed to return until the investigation is completed.
The statement said: “We are aware that a substitute teacher posted a social media message referencing North Side High School. This post has raised concerns among the Fort Worth ISD Community.”
The alleged post was made on X in response to ICE’s account on the platform on Jan. 23, NBC 5 reported.
“Y’all should come to Fort Worth, TX to Northside High School. I have many students who don’t even speak English, and they are in 10th-11th grade. They have to communicate through their iPhone translator with me. The @USEDGOV should totally overhaul our school system in Texas,” the post reportedly said.
The substitute teacher’s name has not been revealed.
We are committed to creating a supportive and positive environment for all our students. The district said that it appreciated the patience and understanding of parents as they addressed this issue.
In his first few days as president, President Trump sought to dramatically increase immigration enforcement. Last week, the Department of Homeland Security rescinded a previous policy that prohibited ICE from entering schools.
Schools can refuse entry to federal agents unless they have a warrant.
