Trump Orders Development of U.S. Iron Dome Missile Defense System

On Sunday, Donald Trump signed a directive that will begin the planning of an air defense system like Israel’s Iron Dome which has been used for thousands upon thousands of rockets.

Trump asked the Defense Secretary for a plan to implement the “next-generation missile defense shield” which will protect the country against ballistic missiles, hypersonic missiles, and advanced cruise weapons. This includes space-based missile interceptors.

In his campaign for 2024, Trump pledged to build an American Iron Dome similar to Israel’s Iron Dome.

He did not consider that the system is designed to protect against threats of short-range missiles and it cannot be used to counter intercontinental missiles which are a primary threat to the United States.

In the executive order issued on Monday, it was stated that unidentified enemies were developing missile launch capabilities.

Trump said earlier at a Republican retreat held in Miami that the system would be built in the United States.

Israel’s Iron Dome system was used to destroy rockets fired by regional enemies Hamas, Hezbollah, and others during the conflict that erupted after Hamas attacked Israel on October 7th.
