On Tuesday, Sen. Chuck Schumer, Minority Leader (D-NY), backed himself into a tight corner with his remarks on the horrific crash of a Delta jet at Toronto Pearson Airport that occurred on Monday.
All 76 passengers and 4 crew members miraculously survived, despite the plane landing awkwardly in bad weather, losing a wing and rolling upside down on the tarmac.
The fact that everyone survived was a great thing, However, Schumer turned a miracle into a political attack when he went on X blaming Trump’s administration for “layoffs” of “FAA safety experts”. White House Press Secretary Karoline Lavitt responded accordingly, pointing out correctly: 1) the plane was flying in Canadian airspace; 2) Canadian ATC was responsible for the landing and 3) ATC in the U.S. was not fired.

Leavitt, as we also reported, has also pushed back on false reporting by “news” outlets like the Associated Press, observing that “No air traffic controllers nor any professionals who perform safety-critical functions were terminated.”
There is also the possibility of pilot error.
Sean Duffy, Secretary of Transportation, stated that “the Transportation Safety Board of Canada will lead the investigation” (with the FAA on its way to assist), but Schumer kept at it, lying through his teeth in a floor speech made Wednesday:

“Just weeks after one of the most deadly plane crashes in recent memory…President Trump fired hundreds of FAA employees, including air safety staff. It is reckless to fire people who are responsible for keeping air travel safe.”
The White House claimed that we had linked the crash of the Minneapolis plane directly to FAA staffing cuts. The truth couldn’t be further away. I said simply that the skies become less safe when there is a reduction in FAA staff. Does Donald Trump deny there are fewer FAA employees? Does Donald Trump deny the fact that when he dismisses FAA employees, especially those who are focused on safety, travel becomes less safe?
“Here are some more facts: Donald Trump & @elonmusk fired hundreds of FAA employees, including safety experts, who ensure our skies remain safe.”
Watch:
Schumer’s actions were backed up by the receipts, which show that he did exactly what he said:
Schumer is a man of many bad habits. One of these is telling blatant lies about what he has said before in plain English. We saw this when Schumer threatened conservative Supreme Court justices Neil Gorsuch, and Brett Kavanaugh, in March 2020, saying “You will pay for releasing the whirlwind!” You will not know what you are in for if you continue with these terrible decisions!
He claimed, after the outrage erupted, that he had been referring to Trump’s reelection chances and those of Senate Republicans.
Schumer said at the time, “My point was there would be consequences, consequences for President Trump, and Senate Republicans if the Supreme Court with newly confirmed justices stripped away a woman’s right of choice.”
Everyone should assume that Schumer will be dishonest whenever he speaks. These are only two examples of many. If only the mainstream media would objectively fact-check him, that would also be fantastic. But until then…
